Blogging and Education
I really enjoyed the end of the article titled Education Blogging . The last few paragraphs finally grabbed me. The statement that a blogger is a reader and then a responder really struck me. I’m interested in the fact that blogs can help students read the blogs of other students and then make comments. I would like to use blogging as a way to help my students pick writing topics.
I think that students need to realize that they can easily become writers. I like how blogs can help create ideas for writers. I laughed about the student who commented that she watched her spelling, because other people might read her blog. I would hope she would watch her spelling with her teacher more than on a blog. I also think that it is important to work with current technology. If the students know how to do it, the teachers should try to keep up with them. I don’t know how easy that is, but I want to try. I also think that the students will be very interested in the fact that their teacher is able to understand the technology that they use.
I also liked the list of ideas about why blogging is important that came from our first article Rationale for Educational Blogging. I think that these ideas would be useful to have when talking to other teachers about why blogging can be useful in the classroom.
My first blogging experience has been interesting. If I was currently teaching, I would use blogging as a way to generate ideas. I liked C. Sloan’s idea of taking a seed sentence from their writing to complete a written assignment. I had never heard that reference before.
